Gerda Stevenson - Imprint

Gerda Stevenson, writer/actor/director/singer/songwriter, works in theatre, television, radio, film, and opera, throughout Britain and abroad.

Her poetry, drama and prose have been widely published, staged and broadcast.
Gerda was nominated as Scots Singer of the Year for the MG Alba Trad Music Awards, nominated three times for the Critics’ Awards for Theatre, Scotland and winner of a BAFTA Best Film Actress award for her role in Margaret Tait’s feature film, BLUE BLACK PERMANENT. She was also commissioned in 2017 by University of Edinburgh to write an opera libretto, with composer Dee Isaacs, based on Coleridge’s poem THE RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER.

Gerda joins us at Imprint to discuss and read from her latest critically acclaimed book QUINES: Poems in tribute to women of Scotland - a collection of poetry giving voice to 68 remarkable women of Scotland from BC to the 21st century - queens, politicians, a fish-gutter, scientists, artists, a salt seller, sportswomen, and many more, including a whole football team.
Clutch this book of wondrous odes to your bosom - it will gladden your heart, sadden it but also fill you with pride. What women they were that birthed our Scottish nation and here they are, exquisitely brought to vibrant life, by that contemporary cultural quine, Gerda Stevenson. --Baroness Helena Kennedy QC
